Driving cultural change to improve safety outcomes

A HSE industry leader wanted to transform safety culture globally - to help organisations evolve from dealing with incidents to encouraging actions that prevent them.

As the UX and UI designer of the safety management platform, I worked closely with a team of agile develoeprs to define user stories and design the flows and interfaces of an responsive staff app and the organisation portal.

Staff app

Information from front-line staff is key to preventing future incidents.

Survey results from front-line staff was designed to feed into real-time dashboards to help safety managers monitor, share, and encourage positive actions that improve safety culture.

Organisation portal

The organisation portal is a myriad of dashboards, graphs and tables that would help health and safety professionals make critical decisions to improve future safety outcomes.

Designing this involved breaking down stakeholders’ sophisticated ideas and understanding the complex data  behind them; transforming data into digestible information that is useful for Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Managers.

Prototyping

Throughout the agile project, responsive prototypes were created in Axure before creating coded prototypes and releases. This way, we could experience and test how the product would feel on targeted devices, including the speed of micro-interactions and finger movement required to tap frequently-used buttons.

The data-driven portal was designed to help HSE managers predict and reduce future incidents, as well as to benchmark safety standards against organisations across the country.
